Catalana de Perforacions has been awarded with the first award of the international congress NO-DIG 2014

The project of horizontal directional drilling carried out by the Catalana de Perforacions SA for the grid connection between Ibiza (Torrent substation) and Mallorca (Santa Ponça substation), has been awarded with the first award in the class “Horizontal Directional Drilling project granted by ibSTT, The Iberian Society for Trenchless Technology”, during the thirty-second international congress No-Dig celebrated for the first time in Spain, in Madrid to be exact on 14 October 2014.

This award also acknowledges the challenge achieved to execute the three drillings in Cala Talamanca (Ibiza) during the last quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014 to excavate three offshore 720m-long micro-tunnels each one, reaching -29m depth, and install a HDPE Ø500mm pipeline in each one for a limited timeframe.

The initial layout of the drillings entailed a HDPE Ø500mm-long HDD that had to be modified to avoid the posidonia prairies (a highly protected species) by re-routing and increasing the length of the drillings. The hard seasonal restrictions for projects in the islands, especially in coastal areas forced to execute the projects 24/7 nonstop and an exhaustive planning and control to carry out the project.
