Catalana de Perforacions has added to its equipment fleet a JT60/JT60 drill rig All Terrain from Ditch Witch, to drill all type of soils with the highest precision.
In order to improve its service to the customers and to be able to execute a harder drilling, the company has purchased a new drill rig which works with double-pipe technology; it provides higher precision in the pilot drilling execution and allows adapting to the soil variation.
The new drill rig is able to drill a solid rock, cobbles, fissured rock, conglomerates, gravel and other rock/ ground mixture. It is especially designed to install underground pipes up to medium diameters and it can get up to 500m. Moreover, it is a compact equipment, ideal to work in limited areas such as cities where the critical point is the space limitation.
The drill rig is equipped with a pipes holder rack, installed on the rig. Thus, no lateral space for pipes loading/ unloading is required. It also improves the operation rapidity. A high pressure pump on the rear part of the rig provides autonomy and agility to the equipment.
It is only necessary a mixing and recycling tank to start the equipment and drill.
Taking into consideration the environment, a Tier 4i (EU Stage IIIb) motor has been chosen to follow the emissions regulations, which reduces the emissions and improves the equipment performance.
The double-pipe technology is highly prove and it allows high accuracy when drilling mixing or rocky ground, thanks to the slight distance between the drill bit and the steering sonde. The internal drill pipe starts the bit, whereas the external pipe, which remains static during the pilot drilling, transmits the pushing force from the rig and steers the drill head. Thus, it improves the drilling and steering capacity at the same time.
This equipment is focused on high accuracy drillings, such as sanitation or piping projects with tightly slopes. The location sonde, placed less than 1m from the drill bit, ensures the maximal slope accuracy during the pilot boring (guide). Likewise, once the pilot drilling jobs are finished, the equipment may ream using the rock tools.
A drilling example executed by means of the double-pipes system was the project made to cross Montjuïc castle walls.
