Catalana de Perforacions attended the inauguration of Pou Flaquer 3, an infrastructure project that strengthens the water supply of Sant Feliu de Codines by up to 40%.
On March 21st, to mark World Water Day, the Sant Feliu de Codines Town Council officially inaugurated Pou Flaquer 3, a strategic infrastructure that increases the municipality’s groundwater extraction capacity by up to 40%.
Catalana de Perforacions was responsible for drilling the preliminary investigation borehole and constructing the well itself. This project stands as an excellent example of how advanced drilling technology and rigorous hydrogeological management can meet the growing water‑supply needs.
Technical data of the Pou Flaquer 3
The project, launched in February 2024, required combining advanced drilling techniques with meticulous planning carried out by the specialist team of the Vertical Drilling division.
Well characteristics:
🕳️ Total drilled depth: 458 m
🔧 Drilling system: Rotary percussion
📏 Drilling diameters: 380 / 312 / 254 mm
🧵 Casing diameters: 320 / 260 / 200 mm
🪨 Lithology found: Marls, sandstones and tertiary conglomerates
🛠️ Type of work: Investigation drilling and abstraction well
📑 Execution phases: Preliminary survey, drilling, pumping test, equipping and legalisation (2024–2026)
The result is a well with a performance comparable to that of Pou Fitó 3, capable of exceeding 700 m³/day of water yield.
Inauguration event
During the institutional event, attendees received a detailed explanation of the construction process and the technical execution of the project by Josep M. Casellas, team leader and company partner.
This presentation highlighted:
- The key role of preliminary surveys as an essential step to ensure project viability.
- The importance of selecting the most suitable drilling system based on the lithology encountered.
- That collaboration and coordination among all parties involved (developer, project management, hydrogeologist, water utility, landowners and neighbours) is crucial for achieving success.
A project with real impact for Sant Feliu de Codines
At Catalana de Perforacions, we are proud to be part of a project that strengthens the municipality’s water resilience, especially in a context of drought and increasing demand.
Pou Flaquer 3 not only increases the water supply capacity by 30% to 40%, but also enhances the security of the system and diversifies local water sources.
For us, it is an honour to see how a technically rigorous project contributes directly to citizens’ well‑being and the sustainable future of the region.
