The river Guadiana crossing works, carried out by Catalana de Perforacions, are part of the water supply network for the Extremadura capital, which has more than 100,000 inhabitants
The objective of the project has been to carry out two drillings to connect both banks of the city using the Horizontal Directional Drilling system, an innovative technique in the sector that replaces trenching and minimizes earth movements and environmental impacts. The works have lasted for over 9 months of intense labor, successfully concluding this April amidst anticipation from authorities and media.
The Government Delegate of Extremadura, Mr. Germán López Iglesisas, along with the Territorial Director of Zone 2 “Waters of the Spanish Basins,” Mr. Emilio del Pozo Mariño, the Deputy Mayor of Mérida, Mrs. Raquel Bravo, and the delegate of “Agua Emeritense,” Mrs. Ana Blanco; attended the area comprising the underground crossing to verify the correct installation that will be part of the water supply network for the population of Mérida and its surrounding area.

- North crossing: installation of a high-density polyethylene pipe with a diameter of 710mm and a maximum length of 370m
The drillings have reached a maximum depth of 31m.
