A total of 85 people attended the Technical Day about InSiTrate project titled “The nitrates in the underground water. New solutions for an unresolved problem”.
The technical day was held on the 07th of April 2016 at Ilunion Hotel in Barcelona and its aim was exposing the new technologies that are being developed in the field of the nitrates elimination found in the underground water, and presenting the first results of InSiTrate project.
The technical day started in the morning with the presentations of Mrs. Núria Micola by Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (Catalan water distribution company), that showed the last data about Catalan aquifers conditions regarding the nitrates-pollution. Then, Dr. Jordi Guimerà by Amphos 21 S.L company, partner of the project, explained the behavior of the nitrates in the underground water, and he was followed by Dr. Joan de Pablo, Professor at UPC, who reviewed the conventional technologies for nitrates treatment, emphasizing their implementation and maintenance costs.

Dr. Joan García presented the different configurations of green filters to remove ammonium and nitrates found in the water. Mr. Francesc Camps explained about Agrarian Future LIFE project, which investigates the use of crops which catch nitrogen for the reduction of nitrates in Catalonia soils. To conclude, Dr. Irene Jubany by Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic explained about InSiTrate project and detailed that up to now it had been achieved a reduction up to 70% regarding the content of nitrates in the area of performance.
